1. Who we are
Godly Weddings ("we", "us", "our") is the data controller for personal data processed through this site. You can reach us at info@godlyweddings.com.
2. Scope and applicable law
We are based in Ghana and our service is offered globally. Where we process the personal data of users in the United Kingdom or European Economic Area, the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) applies extraterritorially under Article 3(2). We also comply with the Ghana Data Protection Act 2012 (Act 843) for data subjects in Ghana, and with applicable US state privacy laws where relevant.
3. Personal data we collect
Couples (account holders)
When you create an account we collect your email address, name and (optionally) profile photo through our authentication provider, Clerk. When you build your wedding site we also store the couple's names, wedding date, venue location, optional custom domain, optional site password, and any photos or text you upload.
Guests
When a couple invites you, we store the name, email, phone number, plus-one details and dietary preferences they provide. When you submit an RSVP we additionally record your response, optional message, and the IP address and browser user-agent of your submission for fraud prevention.
Vendors
When you apply to list your business we collect your business name, contact name, email, phone, address, service areas, social media links, photos and any documents you provide.
Visitors
When you visit any page we collect basic technical data: IP address, user-agent, referrer, and an approximate location (country and city) derived from the IP address using an offline lookup database. If you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics also records anonymised usage data.
4. Why we use your data and the legal basis
- To provide the service (Article 6(1)(b) — performance of a contract): creating and serving your wedding site, processing RSVPs, sending invitations and transactional emails, processing payments through Stripe.
- For security and fraud prevention (Article 6(1)(f) — legitimate interest): rate limiting, audit logging, IP-based abuse detection.
- For analytics and product improvement (Article 6(1)(a) — consent): only when you accept analytics cookies via our banner.
- To meet legal obligations (Article 6(1)(c)): retaining anonymised financial records for tax compliance.
5. Who we share data with (subprocessors)
We use the following service providers, each of whom is bound by a data processing agreement:
- Clerk (US) — authentication and account management.
- Supabase (US/EU) — primary database and file storage.
- Stripe (US/UK/EU) — payment processing. We never see or store your card details.
- Resend (US) — transactional and invitation emails.
- Google Analytics (US) — usage analytics, only when you have accepted analytics cookies.
- Cloudflare R2 / AWS S3 — image and document storage.
- Upstash Redis — rate limiting (stores IP address hashes briefly).
- Google Maps — venue maps embedded on wedding sites.
6. International transfers
Your data may be transferred to and processed in countries outside Ghana, the UK and EEA, including the United States. Where required, we rely on UK International Data Transfer Agreements, EU Standard Contractual Clauses, or equivalent safeguards put in place by our subprocessors.
7. How long we keep your data
- Account and wedding data — until you delete your account, after which a 30-day grace period applies before permanent deletion.
- Anonymised financial records (purchase amount, date, Stripe IDs) — retained for approximately seven years after deletion of the linked account, to meet tax obligations.
- Audit logs — automatically deleted after 90 days.
- Email delivery logs — retained while the wedding exists; deleted with the wedding.
- Guest data — deleted when the couple deletes the wedding, or earlier on request from the couple.
8. Your rights
Under UK GDPR (Articles 15–22) and equivalent laws you have the right to:
- access a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
- have inaccurate data corrected;
- have your data erased (the "right to be forgotten");
- restrict or object to processing in certain circumstances;
- receive your data in a portable machine-readable format;
- withdraw consent for analytics at any time by clicking Reject on our cookie banner or clearing your browser storage.
To exercise any of these rights, email info@godlyweddings.com. We will respond within 30 days. If you are unhappy with our response you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) or to the Data Protection Commission of Ghana (dataprotection.org.gh).
9. Cookies and tracking
We use a small number of essential cookies that are required for the site to work (authentication sessions, security tokens). These do not require consent. We also use Google Analytics cookies, which only load once you have clicked "Accept" on our cookie banner. You can change your choice at any time by clearing your browser's storage for this site.
10. Children
Godly Weddings is not intended for children under the age of 16, and we do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent version. Material changes will be communicated by email to account holders.
